Mindful movement means paying attention to the exercise you are doing: the instructions, your pace and how the movement feels. It does not require an app, a special setting or getting every thought out of your head.
Use the following ideas to make your next coached session easier to follow.
Arrive with time to settle in
Rushing straight from a meeting into a class can leave you thinking about everything except the session. Allow time to get set up and tell your coach about anything you need help with.
Choose one intention for the workout, such as listening closely to the instructions or asking about an unfamiliar movement.
Focus on one coaching cue at a time
You do not need to remember every correction at once. Ask the coach which detail to focus on first, practice it, and check back if you are unsure.
Following a manageable pace gives you space to pay attention. You can request a demonstration or a variation instead of copying the person beside you.
Make room for fewer distractions
Silence nonessential notifications during the session. If you are joining online, close unrelated tabs and put the class where you can see it clearly.
For an outdoor session, notice your surroundings while staying attentive to the coach. ME Life trains beside the Marina del Rey channel at Aubrey E. Austin Jr. Park.
Speak up about discomfort
Attention also means noticing when something does not feel right. Stop a movement that hurts and tell the coach rather than trying to push through it. A fitness class is not a diagnosis or treatment for pain.
